An interesting story has been written by Marjory Allen Perez about this little known African American community located near what is now the Steger Haus Restaurant on North Geneva Road. Perez is the former Wayne County historian and author of various books focusing on the history of Wayne County.
A vibrant African-American community was once located just west of the village of Sodus Point. An abandoned road going east from North Geneva Road down to the creek, a cemetery now in the middle of a plowed field across the creek and perhaps one small house are all that are left of a community that was home to so many for more than 100 years.
